The Driving Licence Affair

Having trouble getting a driving licence? Planning to approach a tout and pay Rs 2000 for it? Think again, just little patience can get you the licence in one fourth of the cost. No touts no hassels!

First thing's first
For Learners Licence (LL)

Get these documents in order :
Download the form from: http://rto.kar.nic.in/form2.pdf (Fill it too)
1. Any one of the following Address proof
Passport , Ration Card, LIC policy, Government Payslip or Electricity Bill
2. Age proof (Any one of the following) Birth/School Certificate , Marks Cards (10th Standard)
3. A receipt for Rs.30 paid at the cash counter
4. 3 recent passport size photographs
Reach the nearest RTO -
Koramangala Rajajinagar Nelamangla Yelahanka K R Puram Indiranagar Yeshwantpur Jayanagar Kengeri
Get a cash reciept at the counter. Amount depends on the classes of vehicles you are applying to.
Pin all these documents together and get in the Q :)

Then comes the orals
Buy a chart of all the road signs if you dont already know. It costs Rs 5.00. Memorize as much as you can.
It will be easy, just be confident.
Learner’s License will be given to you the same day, between 4.30 and 5.30 PM.

For Drivers Licence (DL)
1.Download the form at http://rto.kar.nic.in/form4.pdf fill it completely
2.Visit the RTO and get a reciept for Rs 250 and then get in the Q for DL. You will get a date for driving test.
3.On the Day of driving test - bring all the documents including the document of vehicle. RC book, Pollution check, Insurance and three recent photographs.

Then comes the much awaited Driving Test:
Applicants are tested on their driving skills. RTO Inspector conducts the driving test. You will have to drive through the designated driving track and will be tested on general driving skills and adherence to rules
On passing the test, the driving license will be issued a week later (between 4.30 and 5.30 PM).
If you fail the driving test, you can reapply after a week, by paying only the Driving Test Fee (Rs.50).
Renewal of Learner's Licence

Medical Tests : Only if you are above 40 years of age

Have a licence issued abroad?
You will have to apply from the beginning. Only thing to be happy about is you will be exempted from the driving test. :)
